From our good friends at Muraho Trading Co in Rwanda, this Anoxic Natural from the Gisheke washing station reminds us why it's a coffee we return to year after year. Cherries undergo a controlled fermentation under a water pillow before being dried as a natural process coffee for 4 to 5 weeks. Sweet and tropical, you're in for a real treat with this one!

The Producer

Our partnership with Muraho stems back to the early days of Seam, and year after year they produce beautiful coffee across their now seven washing stations in western Rwanda — from clean washed lots to exciting naturals.

Gisheke is the hidden one, accessible only by boat on Lake Kivu, set between two steep hills facing Idjwi Island and the DRC. The wind moving through those hills makes it well suited to processing and drying the naturals it's known for. Managed by Emmanuel Tuyizere, Gisheke produces around 350 metric tons a year, about 40% of it from Mushungwe Island and its two little sister islands.

The Muraho team are also behind some of the more interesting processing work coming out of Rwanda, and they're dedicated to their community and to good coffee, which is why we come back to them each harvest.
