+ Location: The Seam Roastery in Johannesburg (Unit 14, Building 6, Riversands Outlet Park)
+ Duration: 9am to 3pm
+ Prerequisites: There are no prerequisites for this course but aims to build on an existing basic understanding.
+ Inclusions: Exam and certificate fee, lunch; snacks each day, all equipment and necessary ingredients.
+ Certification: An online exam of 20 questions requiring 60% to pass. Contributes 10 points to SCA Coffee Skills Diploma.
+ The Barista Skills Intermediate course builds on the concepts and skills introduced in the Foundation course.
+ Gain a deeper understanding of the coffee itself, specifically the impact of a coffee’s variety, origins and processing methods on flavour
+ Understanding the how to control the parameters of espresso recipes, sensory understanding of espresso extraction
+ Workflow management and efficiency, sensory aspects of the espresso extraction
+ Milk handling and techniques as well as latte art
+ Key concepts regarding health and safety, customer service and basic business practices.
